ABSTRACT
The article provides information about economic, political and business development news related to Latvia. Parliament in March re-elected Prosecutor General Janis Maizitis for another five-year term. His re-appointment has been welcomed in most quarters because of his willingness to pursue allegations of corruption and financial impropriety leveled at major business groups. The Baltic States have issued a joint statement expressing their concern about a European Commission proposal to continue capping annual transfers to new member states at 4% of the recipient's GDP over the European Union's next budgetary period, 2007-2013. Latvia's upcoming auction of a third license to provide mobile phone services is attracting less interest than hoped for.
