ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the political and economic developments in Lithuania. Political stability in Lithuania seems set to continue in 2005, after the parliament gave its assent to the establishment of a four-party coalition on December 12, to be headed by current Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas. Lithuania has announced plans to create a yield curve of benchmark foreign bonds. On top of the EUR500-600mn 11-year issue planned for Q105, which the government intends to raise to EUR1bn by February 2006, the Treasury department expects to issue two more bonds of at least EUR1bn within two years. In its recent review of the Lithuanian economy, the IMF called upon the Lithuanian government to look beyond the now largely completed privatization process and towards structural fiscal modernization as the key means of improving the business environment.
