ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the political developments in Latvia. Aigars Kalvitis has been appointed premier and has assembled a coalition featuring the parties of the last administration and the largest opposition party, New Era. Latvia has a new government and early indications suggest that it will prove more effective than its predecessor. Kalvitis, who heads the outgoing government's largest member, the People's Party, had promised to assemble a broad coalition, capable of providing the stability that had been conspicuously absent during eight months of minority government.
