ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the economic developments in Slovakia. In 2004 the driver of Gross Domestic Product growth has shifted from net exports to domestic demand. The most notable development in 2004 in terms of the structure of economic expansion was a shift away from the export-led growth that had characterized the economy in 2003, to domestic demand as the main motor of growth. Growth in imports of goods and services of 12.9% exceeded the 12.4% expansion in exports, as the main foreign-owned investment projects currently under construction, notably in the automotive sector, stepped up imports of capital goods.
