ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the health of Thailand's polity, economy and the general business environment. Apirak Kosayodhin, a candidate from Thailand's main opposition Democrat Party, has been elected Governor of Bangkok. The Kosayodhin's victory is a setback for Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his Thai Rak Thai party ahead of a general election which must be called by January 2005. Thailand's central bank, the Bank of Thailand (BoT), has raised its key interest rate, the 14-day repurchase rate, by 0.25 percentage points to 1.5 percent. Thailand and India have started cutting duties on each other's imports in a bid to create a free-trade area between the two countries by 2010.
