ABSTRACT
This article presents information on political and economic conditions in Thailand. Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, remains strong favourite in the upcoming general elections which must be held by January 2005. But in spite of his popularity, Thaksin is coming under increasing criticism for his increasingly authoritarian leadership style, which is leading to an increase in official corruption and reduced freedom for Thailand's normally free and vocal press. Thailand reaffirmed its position as one of the fastest growing Asian economies with the announcement of 6.5% y-o-y growth in the third quarter of 2003.
