ABSTRACT
The article presents a forecast scenario of Business Monitor International Ltd. (BMI) on Thailand's economy. Thailand's economy slowed slightly during the second quarter of 2003 due to the flu-like SARS virus. Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose 5.8% year-on-year compared with growth of 6.7% between January and March. Thailand's first-half real GDP growth nevertheless came to 6.2% and BMI's full-year forecast of a 4.8% economic expansion is under review for an upgrade. BMI's panel of six investment banks, plus the Asian Development Bank and IMF, are, on average, more optimistic about Thailand's economic prospects. The government's planning agency, the National Economic and Social Development Board, has revised its forecasts upwards.
