Case Study
Greece is one of the moderate innovators globally with a below average performance. It ranks 19th in the EU27 innovation scoreboard 2010. This is mainly due to lack of culture for innovation and the relative ease of entrepreneurship due to abundance of funds from EU until 2007. The global economic crisis has revealed the deficiencies of the national system of innovation and added problems in policy design and implementation. The goal of the study is to investigate and establish the reasons based on innovation, that certain companies have managed to develop through the severe economic crisis. Case studies are being created in order to serve as examples for other enterprises. The obvious results were that innovative companies with strong export orientation managed not only to survive but thrive through the crisis. The unexpected finding is that family owned business proved stronger based on the commitment of their stakeholders.
