Case Study
The article presents a case study of a 39-year-old woman exhibiting a five-day history of fever, chills, and pain in the right shoulder and right upper quadrant of her abdomen. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a multi-septated abscess in the liver and the fluid drained from the abscess was reactive to Entamoeba (E.) histolytica IgG. The article discusses amebic liver abscesses and its medical management.

Introduction: Amoebiasis is caused by the parasitic organism, Entamoeba histolytica. Infection with this organism may present as intestinal amoebiasis, eg amoebic colitis or may be manifested extra-intestinally as hepatic amoebiasis, amoebic liver or brain abscess. Of these, amoebic liver...

Entamoeba histolytica (Eh) is an extracellular protozoan parasite of the human colon, which occasionally breaches the intestinal barrier. Eradicating ameba that invades is essential for host survival. A defining but uncharacterized feature of amebic invasion is direct contact between ameba and...

Background: Entamoeba histolytica is an intestinal protozoan parasite that causes amoebiasis, including amebic dysentery and liver abscesses. E. histolytica invades host tissues by adhering onto cells and phagocytosing them depending on the adaptation and expression of pathogenic factors,...
