Case Study
The article presents a case study of a 53-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis and had been treated with oral prednisolone and methotrexate for more than 15 years. The wound did not heal four weeks after a total elbow arthroplasty was carried out with a Gschwend-Scheier-Bahler-III prosthesis but the infection was controlled without removing the implant. The article discusses a method similar for the treatment of periprosthetic femoral fracture following total knee and hip arthroplasties.

Higher complication rates and lower survivorship are still seen for total elbow arthroplasties compared to total knee and hip arthroplasties.
