ABSTRACT
The article describes the case of a 44-year-old man with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) who died despite treatment with cotrimoxazole. The patient, who had undergone renal transplant, received antilymphocyte globulin before he was given ciclosporin, prednisolone and mycophenolate mofetil for immunosuppression. He was intubated and mechanically ventilated in the intensive care unit (ICU) when his condition worsened.
