ABSTRACT
The article presents a case study of a 52-year-old woman who developed persistent Mycobacterium malmoense infection despite treatment with rifampicin/isoniazid/pyrazinamide [Rifater], ethambutol and clarithromycin. He received empiric treatment with cefotaxime, gentamicin and metronidazole after he was hospitalized with extensive multifocal lung disease. The man subsequently died following impairment of intrapulmonary gas exchange and oligoanuria.
