ABSTRACT
This article recounts the life of Jacob Brodbeck who tried to invent airplanes in Texas the 1800s. Brodbeck was born in Germany on October 13, 1821, and immigrated to Texas when he was twenty-five. When the Civil War ended, he set up a company to build a plane with wings and a propeller driven by a coiled spring. He built as much as he could, but ran out of money and investors. He went all over the country speaking about his plane.
