ABSTRACT
The article reports that the oldest battleship in the U.S. is the Texas. It was launched on May 18, 1912.The Texas remains the only surviving battleship from the dreadnought era, when great ships with great guns were considered the country's first line of defense. The Texas did not see much action during the First World War, but in the Second it fought at Normandy and then moved to the Pacific to take part in the invasion of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. It is now docked by the San Jacinto Monument as the flagship of the Texas Navy.
