ABSTRACT
The article recounts the establishment of the Dallas County in Texas on March 30, 1846. Lawyer John Neely Bryan built a cabin in a clearing in 1841. That clearing would eventually become the Courthouse Square in Dallas. It is assumed the legislators named it for George Dallas, who was the vice-president of the U.S.
