ABSTRACT
For most of us, our sense of well-being is closely tied to whether or not we have a sense of purpose and of making a difference. Employees who feel they are simply part of a bureaucracy and unable to contribute to the bigger picture may become disappointed and depressed. Although valuable and talented, they do not know how to use their positive personality traits or how to navigate the organizational structure to make a difference. If we recognize and understand our core personality strengths, then we can use those strengths to make the difference we crave in our organizations and in our relationships. In Making a Difference by Being Yourself, author Gregory Huszczo builds on the framework of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator � personality assessment (MBTI) to help people identify their �core� personalities. These are: (1) Stabilizers, (2) Harmonizers, (3) Catalysts, and (4) Visionaries. Stabilizers prefer to break tasks down into easy to understand tasks with measurable results. They are good at motivating others by presenting a verifiable series of steps to follow. In relationships, they are dependable and are able to work through emotional issues. Harmonizers, with their contagious optimism, are good at creating a team environment and making sure everything runs smoothly. They can be counted on in a relationship and are intensely loyal. Catalysts promote the feeling of being a part of something larger than themselves and are good communicators and motivators. They push for the long-term development of people, and are able to encourage others to see things differently. Visionaries are big-picture oriented and are the risk takers in the organization. They value knowledge and are critical thinkers. Visionaries set high standards for themselves and others. In relationships, they believe it is better to give than receive and come up with creative ways to solve disputes.
