ABSTRACT
All lemurs live on the island of Madagascar where they evolved in isolation. In lemur groups the females are the more aggressive protectors of territory than the males. Contesting male lemurs use scent glands in their fighting. The indri is the largest lemur. Fat-tailed dwarf lemurs sleep through the dry season, living on the fat stored in the base of their tail.
