Information on the surgical procedure for the repair of paraesophageal hernia from a chapter of the book "Atlas of Gastrointestinal Surgery," Volume One, Second Edition, is presented. It describes the Type I, Type II and Type III paraesophageal hernia. It relates that the procedure is necessary for patients who are at risk of incarceration, bleeding and/or perforation.
