ABSTRACT
Information on the management of splenic trauma by splenorrhaphy from a chapter of the book "Atlas of Gastrointestinal Surgery," Volume One, Second Edition, is presented. The role of spleen in fighting infection with encapsulated organisms is described, as well as the indications for splenorrhaphy. It explains the importance of exposure in attempting splenic repair. The procedures involved in splenorrhaphy are also outlined.
