ABSTRACT
Information on the splenectomy for a massive spleen from a chapter of the book "Atlas of Gastrointestinal Surgery," Volume One, Second Edition, is presented. The indications for a splenectomy for a massively enlarged spleen are described. The procedures involved in the use of midline incision when performing a splenectomy are outlined, as well as the division of attachments between the splenic flexure of the colon and the spleen.
