Information on splenectomy from a chapter of the book "Atlas of Gastrointestinal Surgery," Volume One, Second Edition, is presented. The indications for splenectomy are outlined. It explains the application of midline and subcostal splenectomy. The process by which the splenic flexure of the colon is mobilized is also described.
