ABSTRACT
Information on distal pancreatectomy for chronic pancreatitis from a chapter of the book "Atlas of Gastrointestinal Surgery," Volume One, Second Edition, is presented. Classic distal pancreatectomy is said to be performed over to the superior mesenteric vein. Such procedure can be performed either through a midline or bilateral subcostal incision. Procedures for distal pancreatectomy are described.
