ABSTRACT
A section from the book "Atlas of Gastrointestinal Surgery" Volume One, Second Edition is presented. It describes and illustrates how proximal cholangiocarcinoma is addressed via palliation by transhepatic stenting and hepaticojejunostomy. Traditionally, patients with proximal cholangiocarcinomas are staged by percutaneous cholangiography and three-dimensional computed tomography sans. Palliation is done with percutaneous transhepatic biliary catheters if a patient is not resectable for cure. Details of how the procedure is done are discussed.
