ABSTRACT
A section from the book "Atlas of Gastrointestinal Surgery" Volume One, Second Edition is presented. It describes and illustrates resection of a proximal cholangiocarcinoma with hepatic lobectomy and reconstruction with a hepaticojejunostomy. It is noted that patients with proximal cholangiocarcinomas will have tumor extension up into a lobe from the bifurcation. These patients may still be resectable of hepatic lobectomy is added to resection of the bifurcation and extrahepatic biliary tree. Details of how the procedure is done are discussed.
