ABSTRACT
A section from the book "Atlas of Gastrointestinal Surgery" Volume One, Second Edition is presented. It describes and illustrates how laparoscopic cholecystectomy is performed. It notes how the procedure has become the procedure of choice for patients undergoing cholecystectomy. Its most common indication is symptomatic gallstones. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia with a standard abdominal preparation. Four laparoscopic trocars are necessary for most patients. Details of how the procedure is performed are provided.
