Book Chapter
Information on roadhouses in Alaska from a chapter of the book "The Alaska Almanac," 32nd edition, is presented. These modest quarters provided accommodations for sled-dog teams during winter, as well as bed and board for travelers passing Alaska trails. Some of the few historic roadhouses that were able to survive include Gakona Lodge on the Glenn Highway and Paxson Lodge at the junction of the Richardson. It relates that at present, some historic roadhouses have been transformed into museums while others are occupied by businesses.
