ABSTRACT
The chapter provides information on Slovakia's history and government. Slovakia is a new country, existing as an independent nation only since 1993. Artifacts discovered on Slovak lands indicate the area was home to human beings 270,000 years ago. Details of the centuries of conflict with neighboring countries are presented. Information on how it became independent of Hungary is also provided.
