ABSTRACT
Chapter 11 of the book "The Postcolonial Crescent: Islam's Impact on Contemporary Literature" is presented. It focuses on the education problems of Senegal which is depicted in Senegalese fiction. Marabouts or spiritual guides have played a key role in the education of young people in Senegalese society. Some novelists point out the conflict that the intrusion of the Western school brought about between the youth and their elders. "Serin fakk tal" was a type of marabout during the time of the Wolof empire.
