ABSTRACT
Chapter 3 of the book "The Postcolonial Crescent: Islam's Impact on Contemporary Literature" is presented. It focuses on the artistic creativity expressed in Islamic contexts. Islam was a source of national unity and an instrument in the liberation from the French. The subversion of the words of the Qur'an shows clearly the impact of French culture and language when they are not counterbalanced by an equal mastery of Islamic and Arab culture. Literature can nourish social imagination by offering it a mythological vision of the human condition.
