ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an overview of the business sector of Uganda. In the years of Uganda's newly won independence, the country had one of the most productive economies in East Africa. However, mismanagement during Colonel Idi Amin's reign nearly destroyed the Ugandan system, and the years since have been a period of recovery. However, when President Museveni took power in 1986, he initiated economic reforms and focused on expanding Uganda's free market. Since then, the economy has grown by about 7% per year.
