It mentions that he was born on August 2, 1856 in Melbourne to John William Henry Irvine and his wife Mary Irvine. He became an apprentice in a premier printing firm and there he learned the art of litography, which he later use in preparing wine labels. It highlights his great contribution for the commercial success and raising the status of the Australian wine industry.
