ABSTRACT
The article discusses the use of social media in education. Egalitarianism in the production and distribution of knowledge via social media is described, information is offered on the use of open and free software and websites such as OpenStreetMap, Wikipedia, and YouTube, and the author outlines difficulties in attempting to categorize these individual services by the type of media to which they provide access.
