ABSTRACT
This article presents information about investment banking in the real estate sector of the U.S. as of May 12, 2003. Shares of Selfridges, the famous London deportment store, rose to a 52-week high in May 2003 as investors expected bids from Scottish retailing entrepreneur Tom Hunter, from Selfridges' management, which is backed by Blackstone, and reportedly from Goldman Sachs & Co. Selfridges' appeal in large port derives from its reel estate, which includes a 450, QOO-squarefat store in the heart of London's shopping district. S&P cut Statwood Hotels' credit rating to junk, BB+ from BBB −, due to the hotel operator's lack of progress in improving credit measures in the last few quarters as the lodging sector itself has slumped.Low mortgage rates and an improving economy may make 2003 the second-best year on record for the housing market after 2002, says the National Association of Realtors, as 30-year fixed mortgage rates should move only gradually to 6.3 percent by year-end.
