ABSTRACT
Early literacy has become an important field in modern library work where it relies on the cooperation of local network partners. The literacy programme 'Lesestart - Three Milestones for Reading', which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and carried out by Stiftung Lesen, a German foundation for reading promotion, aims at supporting librarians in this domain. Since November 2013 libraries as central places for cultural education have been essential for the second stage of the programme.
