ABSTRACT
We report the use of the Langmuir-Blodgett technique to fabricate organic superlattices with the specific symmetry requirements for the observation of the pyroelectric effect. The unique polar axis associated with these structures is characterized by dynamic surface potential measurements. For the first time pyroelectric activity is observed in ‘‘thin’’ (11-layer) assemblies. The pyroelectric coefficient obtained for a 99-layer sample is comparable to that of polyvinylidene fluoride, a commercially available pyroelectric polymer.
