ABSTRACT
Self-assembly of FePt and Fe[sub 3]O[sub 4] nanoparticles of different sizes led to various FePt-Fe[sub 3]O[sub 4] nanocomposites. Annealing the composite under reducing atmosphere at 650 and 700 °C induced magnetically hard FePt phase and magnetically soft Fe[sub 3]Pt phase. The FePt and Fe[sub 3]Pt phases were either linked by a common interface or coexisted within one grain as domains with sizes <10 nm. This ensures the effective exchange coupling of magnetically hard and soft phases. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy studies provide detailed structural characterization for the FePt based nanocomposites.

We have created nanospirals by self-assembly during droplet evaporation. The nanospirals, 60-70 nm in diameter, formed when solvent mixtures of methanol and m-cresol were used. In contrast, spin coating using only methanol as the solvent produced epitaxial films of stripe nanopatterns and using...

The [Co/CoO] multilayer nanocap arrays are fabricated on the colloidal sphere arrays which are prepared on the Si substrate by the self-assembly technology. Compared to bilayer film, the H of multilayer film is larger than that of the bilayer film. The increase of H for multilayer should be...
