ABSTRACT
In this article, the author discusses the controversy surrounding the display in Sioux Falls, South Dakota of a full-sized replica of the sculpture "David" by the Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo. The author comments on the local community's uneasy relationship with a statue that features a larger-than-life depiction of a nude man. The article is adapted from a chapter in the unpublished book "Naked Art in Polite Society."
