ABSTRACT
The article reports on the move of New York City which is considering what to do with the outdated and mostly non-functioning telephone booths. It cites several cities in other countries which have repurposed their booths instead of removing them including London, England. It adds that there are an estimated of 9,000 payphones and their contracts will end on October 15, 2014. It notes that New York City wants a network of smart terminals, however it does not have a clear plan yet.
