ABSTRACT
Over the last few years, new information technologies, especially the Internet, have had a fundamental role in reformulating the activity of public administration, as well as its relationship with the citizen. New paths will be opened in the near future for the improvement in both areas, under what has come to be known as "Intelligent Administration". Considering this the next step in current electronic public administration, the article analyses the possibilities of i-Administration in Spain, suggesting the basic parameters for developing it, presenting the most relevant current initiatives in Spain, and working out how steps taken in private business could be applied to a public sector in a major phase of transformation. A reflection is offered on the possibilities of success of these changes, considering the complexity of combining the private business model with the public system and the progressive adaptation of public administration both to the new technology environment and the new demands and needs of society.
