ABSTRACT
The article focuses on various activities related to cash balance plan legislative in the United States. The withdrawal of parts of Treasury Department-proposed rules that would have increased the likelihood of plans failing nondiscrimination tests in situations where employees may choose between an existing pension plan and a new cash balance plan. Hearings by the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service on the cash balance and other pension plan nondiscrimination rules. At the IRS/Treasury hearing, Representative Bernard Sanders said changing pension systems to cash balance from traditional defined benefit systems was simply "unacceptable."
