ABSTRACT
The article reports on efforts of CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta to save the life of an Iraqi boy who was injured on the Iraqi battlefield during the U.S. attack on Iraq. Gupta, an embedded war correspondent with a Navy unit, is also a neurosurgeon. Navy doctors asked Gupta to perform brain surgery on the boy because the medical unit that he is embedded with lacked a neurosurgeon. although journalistic ethics call for reporters to be observers rather than participants, but Gupta said he did not think twice when the doctors asked him to operate on the boy, who later died.
