ABSTRACT
In the present study the bark of Ceriops decandra, collected from godavari estuary, Ceriops tagal and Xylocapus molluccensis collected from Krishna estuary of hexane, methylene chloride and methanol extracts were evaluated for Genotoxicity and cytotoxicity effects. The results indicated that the extracts from the all the three mangrove plant species have cyto-toxicity and it is substantiated from mitotic index and cell proliferation kinetics values. Further, the extracts indicated that they are geno-toxic and it is substantiated by an increase in sister chromosome exchange frequency.

Background: Cuscuta reflexa Roxb., (Convolvulaceae), is well known medicinal plant in Indian System of Medicine for various ailments. We have explored antiproliferative properties of Cuscuta reflexa (whole plant). Methods: Three extracts (95% alcoholic, 50% hydro-alcoholic and aqueous) and four...

Chronic administration of vinyl acetate (VA) in drinking water to rats and mice has produced upper digestive tract neoplasms. These tumors were believed to arise from the intracellular metabolism of VA by carboxylesterases to cytotoxic and genotoxic compounds. We hypothesized that prolonged VA...

The heterozygous p53 knockout mouse is being used as a short-term alternative model for carcinogenicity screening of chemicals. In most cases, these mice develop tumors within 6 months of exposure to genotoxic carcinogens. The bladder and liver carcinogen, p-cresidine, is recommended as a...

The genotoxicity of trophosphamide (TP) in mouse germ cells was assessed by the cytogenetic analysis of micronuclei in spermatids and chromosome aberrations in one-cell zygotes and compared with the genotoxicity in somatic cells evaluated by the micronucleus reticulocyte assay. Single acute...
