The sale of $347.3 million of hotel revenue bonds by a Denver conduit issuer may be placed on hold after construction unions threatened to force a referendum on the plan. The city had planned to issue the debt this month via the Denver Convention Center Hotel Authority, which was created in February to oversee the construction and financing of a 1,100-bed hotel to serve the city's newly expanded convention center. While Denver Mayor Wellington Webb has said the threat of a referendum“ kills the deal,” sources close to city hall say that may be an overstatement.
