ABSTRACT
The article discusses significant contributions of the late U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop to the national public health campaign against HIV and AIDS. It offers a brief overview of the Surgeon General's report on AIDS published by Koop in 1986 in response to the rising AIDS epidemic in the U.S. It also explores the HIV testing and blood screening efforts launched during his term which led to the reduced HIV transmission rates and the release of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy in 2010.
