The article presents information about Microsoft Windows 95. Win95's improvements over today's most commonly used operating systems promise to exploit the full power of modern International Business Machines Corp. (IBM)-compatible personal computer hardware, and make computers easier to use as well. The sheer ambition of the marketing and engineering task, the product's test-version technical flaws, Microsoft Corp.'s market power and widely alleged arrogance, the timidity and equivocation of chief rival IBM, controversial government investigations, and industry players hot to turn Win95 to their own advantage transformed this product launch into a marketing circus long before finished versions were even available for sale.
