ABSTRACT
The aim of this work was the assessment of genetic diversity and analysis of production and reproduction traits in different breeding types of Slovak Simmental cattle in the period 2002 - 2012. The number of Slovak Simmental cows is maintained on a relatively stable level in recent years. In the last period, there was also a reduction in the number of Slovak Simmental breed, but not as strong as after 1990 (85 518), where in 2002 it was 17 485. The number of purebred Simmental cows was 12 428 in 2010; 12 307 in 2011 and 12 573 in 2012. The average annual increase in milk production between the years 2002 to 2012 was + 122.92 kg of milk, + 3.45 kg of fat and +4.56 kg of protein. Positive growth of milk production in recent years is partly comparable with the trend of breeding improvement.
