ABSTRACT
The article presents a 10-year follow-up review of the South Atlantic Project, a multiple sclerosis (MS) survey conducted from 1995-1998 in Brazil to investigate the impact of diagnostic criteria for neuromyelitis optica (NMO) in patients with MS patients. An overview of the geographic and ethnic distribution of NMO is given. The result and conclusion of the study is discussed, which demonstrate the hypothesis of an ethnic association of the disease.
