A personal narrative is presented in which the author describes his experiences as a judge in a poetry competition for a Hippocrates Prize, focusing on the challenge of evaluating poetry as well as his advocacy of the poem "Two Bound Copies of the Lancet 1886," by Dr. Nicholas Leach.
