Chicago, Illinois-based Chicago Public Schools chief financial officer (CFO) Kenneth Gotsch—one of the architects of the financial turnaround achieved by the system over the last seven years—has resigned to take over as the finance chief at the larger Los Angeles Unified School District in Los Angeles, California. Gotsch took the job as CFO of Chicago schools more than seven years ago at the behest of the district's former chief executive officer Paul Vallas—Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's choice to lead the schools following the state's 1995 decision to hand control of the system over to the city. “Ken has provided strong leadership resulting in a streamlined and well-managed finance department, unqualified audit opinions, financial stability, and the highest credit rating in 45 years for the Chicago Board of Education,”board president Michael Scott said in a statement.
