Speculates that the challenge of preventing military conflict since 1990 in the post-Cold War world has swung increasingly toward support for a stronger United Nations and encouraged the use of economic sanctions for a variety of purposes. UN-sponsored sanctions in force around the world; Lifting of UN sanctions against Haiti in August 1993; Questions concerning their utility; Probability targets for new economic sanctions will emerge.
